Sometimes things just come together for a great shot but you need to be out there and ready to take advantage. Can you iMagine what is happening that we don't know about!

Limit the elements...

One house, one tree, rest of frame is a wheat paddock...perfect. Can you iMagine what this says about life on the land?

Get down and dirty...

In this case down and wet. Changing height changes the relationship of the elements of the shot. Can you iMagine this from normal standing position...meh?

Stickscape...

One of my favourites. Dead branches provide repetition and bird gives a nice surprise at the end. Minimal subject matter. Can you iMagine having the right kind of camera control to get this shot?

Still water equals reflections...

But the reflection still needs support through good composition. Can you iMagine a really fiery sunset at this location?

Bird and worm beats just bird...

What you want is something different. Sure take the other images to refine your techniques but you'll know when you've got something special! Can you iMagine your first genuine cracking shot?

Contrasting elements give better focus to the subject. Can you iMagine something nearby that you could represent like this?

Don't you love fog? It simplifies the scene. Can you iMagine times when fog was all about?

For many landscapes, the early and later part of the day give a window for warm and hopefully NOT fuzzy images. Can you iMagine how good it must make you feel?

Animal behaviours need to be considered. Having the camera pre set and pre focussed can help when the action is rapid and fleeting. Can you iMagine a better way to spend some quality time?

It took me a little while to see this reflection as I was focussed on the sunrise proper; but when I did, and against the triangle roof pitch I was hooked! Can you iMagine the possibilities?

Small things, big impact!

Longer lenses can be used for close ups. Be aware of what's behind the subject too! Can you iMagine all those small creatures just waiting for you!

This is a perfect example of waiting for the right behaviour. From past experience male 'roos and wallabies typically test themselves. They throw their heads back for protection. Can you iMagine the patience required to get an almost symmetrical image?

A little license with Photoshop here but the strong steel structure and the receding angles in the shot are the fundamental underpinnings, Can you iMagine being able to get clean, clear shots because you bounced out of bed before the traffic got going?

Depending where you focus can have a dramatic effect on the feel of the photo. Can you iMagine taking something fairly common and turning it into something extra-ordinary?

Lines and light...

Fairly early light is less harsh and yet still brings out the colours. Roots and branches can provide lines to follow through your image. Can you iMagine how ordinary this would look in the middle of the day under strong, harsh summer sun?

No need to shout!...

Personifying animals seems to be popular with many. Animal behaviours should be studied before pressing the button. Can you iMagine the opportunities for something different if you are patient?

Wetland art...

Still water provides reflections. Repeating trees with patterns and contrasts add to the mix. Can you iMagine sitting in a canoe on a lake, birds, turtles and insects doing their thing?

Dramatic landscapes are there to be enjoyed. You will still need to consider good composition. Some foreground interest, some leading lines. Can you iMagine being rugged up in a down jacket and beanie while trying to keep the camera steady in a howling wind?

Rare and exquisite...

Australia's parrots are incredible. This gentle little Turquoisine enjoys a bit of sun time. Positioning the subject infront of a darker background helps it to pop! Keep the elements of the image few and simple. Can you iMagine photographing rarely seen animals?

In step...

Opportunities present at any time. Nature is not very predictable. Having your gear ready to roll may make the difference. Can you iMagine missing this shot?

Having a kup bro!...

Something different is what I look for. An opportunity to get a landscape photo with a good detailed animal photo. Required a shorter focal length lens for the landscape and getting closer to the seal. Can you iMagine not planning an escape route if the seal took exception?

Foreground interest...

Getting down and closer to the skull gave it a much more prominent position in the image. Contrasting beauty with death adds difference. Can you iMagine being out in that vast landscape in total peace?

It's all about shutter speed...

Shooting in S or manual mode gives exceptional control. This is a slow speed panning (move camera with subject) shot of a heron. Can you iMagine how boring a static image might look?
